If you live in South Florida and fear that you won’t be able to get to New York City to see MJ The Musical on Broadway, you will have two chances to see the four-time Tony Award-Winning hit locally. Specifically, the Broadway touring production of MJ The Musical will come to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale within about a month of each other in 2025.
MJ the Musical is one of just several Broadway shows scheduled to play in South Florida as part of the 2024-25 Broadway touring season.
Below are the line ups for the 2024-25 Broadway in Miami and Broadway in Ft. Lauderdale.
The Broadway in Miami lineup includes two South Florida premieres, two Miami premieres, and the return of two beloved Blockbuster musicals. Here is the schedule:
Some Like it Hot (Dec. 3-8, 2024) – The winner of four Tony Awards, including Best Choreography and Best Costumes, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Some Like it Hot tells the story of two musicians forced to flee Chicago after witnessing a mob hit. With gangsters on their heels, they catch a cross-country train for the life-chasing, life-changing trip of a lifetime.
Tina: The Tina Turner Musical (Jan. 14-19, 2025): This show tells the triumphant story of the Queen of Rock and Roll set to the pulse soundtrack of her most beloved hits. The musical presents the titular character’s journey against all odds to become of the world’s most beloved artists of all time.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall penned the musical.
Mama Mia (Feb, 18-23): A mother, a daughter, and three possible dads. For almost 25 years, people all over the world have fallen in love with the characters, the story, and the timeless hits of ABBA that makes Mamma Mia! The ultimate feel-good show.
MJ the Musical (March 18-23, 2025): He is one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Now, Michael Jackson’s unique and unparalleled artistry comes to Miami as MJ, the multiple Tony Award-winning new musical centered on the making of the 1992 Dangerous Dangerous World Tour. Created by Tony Award-winning director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, MJ goes beyond the singular moves and signature sound of the star, offering a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that made Michael Jackson a legend.
Beetlejuice (April 29-May 4, 2025) The live show, based on Tim Burton’s beloved film, tells the tale of Lydia Deetz. She is a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes.
Chicago (June 17-22, 2025) Chicago is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake; a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one showstopping song after another, as well as astonishing dancing. In the whirlwind of Chicago’s Jazz Age, two of the Cook County Jail’s most notorious murderesses – vaudeville star Velma Kelly and chorus girl Roxie Hart – become fierce rivals as they compete for headlines amidst a media frenze.

The show tells the untold true story of how America’s greatest hitmaker became a star, set to the songs that defined his career.
Disney’s The Lion King (March 6-30, 2025) Experience the stunning artistry, unforgettable music and exhilarating choreography. Shucked (June 10-22) This corn-fed, corn-bred American musical is sure to satisfy your appetite for great musical theater. Shucked is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy set in the fictional rural town of Cob County. Surrounding it is a thick wall of corn that sustains the town’s livelihood. Suddenly, the corn begins to die, and it’s up to farmgirl Maizy to venture out to a big city — Tampa – to get help.

Also in Ft. Lauderdale, Slow Burn Theatre Company, which also stages its shows at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, has announced its 2024-25 season.
First up, from Oct. 19-Nov. 3, is The Witches of Eastwick will cast its spell with a bewitching tale of three desperate housewives in small town America who wish for the man of their dreams – and get more than what they bargained for.
Next up, Anastasia will take guests on a captivating journey as a brave young woman seeks to uncover her past once upon a December. The show runs from Dec. 21-Jan. 5.
Then, brace yourself for the powerful and thought-provoking story of Parade, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical based on a true story about the ultimate test of love, faith, humanity, justice, and devotion. Parade will run from Feb. 8-23.
Prepare to laugh out loud with Something Rotten, a hilarious musical comedy set in the Renaissance about two brothers who set out to write the world’s first musical in a hilarious mashup of 16th century Shakespeare and 21st century Broadway. Something Rotten runs from March 29-April 13.
Last, but not least is The Bodyguard, which brings to life the iconic film’s thrilling story made famous by Whitney Houston featuring a host of Grammy Award-winning songs. The Bodyguard runs from June 7-22.
